The Santa Marta Lighthouse is one of the oldest in the municipality and played an important role in the security of Cascais and in guiding boats to dry land. Today, after an architectural intervention by Francisco and Manuel Aires de Mateus, in addition to its coastal signaling functions, it houses a museum space dedicated to the five centuries of life of Portuguese lighthouses, an unprecedented model in the country.
