Details:
Built at an altitude of 500 meters and inspired by the palaces of Bavaria, the Palace of Pena is the most beautiful example of Portuguese architecture of Romanticism, due to its extremely fanciful characteristics. Its construction dates back to 1839, when King Consort Ferdinand II of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha acquired the ruins of the Jerome Monastery of Our Lady of Pena to transform them into a palace.
