About Us

Our story

The history of Scotturb is intertwined with the history of public transport in Portugal, as the company is the result of the nationalisation of the companies Cernache do Bom Jardim, Palhinhas, Sintra Atlântico and Boa Viagem, which were integrated into Rodoviária Nacional after the 25th of April 1974. In 1976, the year in which the Portuguese state nationalised 94 road passenger transport companies under the same banner, it organised them into nine passenger operating centres, according to their operating areas, and then united the entire Lisbon area under the DGRL – General Directorate of the Lisbon Region, later transformed into Rodoviária de Lisboa. With the privatisation of Rodoviária de Lisboa in May 1995, the operating area that included Cascais, Sintra and Oeiras was acquired by the English company Stagecoach Holdings, which began operating in our country under the name Stagecoach Portugal. In June 2001, the company was sold and renamed Scotturb, marking the beginning of a new era in the history of the company, but also in public passenger transport. In August 2004, it was completely restructured, both in terms of internal organisation and infrastructure and the transport network, as a result of new management. Focusing on comfort and safety, Scotturb has a team of 460 professionals who, on a daily basis, strive to provide a quality service to the more than 50,000 passengers who are transported every day by a modern fleet of 160 vehicles to carry out 1,900 daily journeys.

Mission to transport

Scotturb aims to provide adequate and efficient mobility, defining its customers' satisfaction as a principle, by understanding their needs, earning their trust with a safe, comfortable and quality public transport service. Understanding the needs of customers, responding appropriately to their expectations, informing and clarifying their doubts at all times, so that using public transport is a simple and natural act, are basic duties that Scotturb assumes as innate in its daily operations. Also not neglecting its environmental intervention, its philosophy is the systematic renewal of its fleet, through the acquisition of new vehicles, equipped with the latest technologies, with regard to safety, comfort, accessibility and respect for the environment.

Sectoral framework

In partnership with metropolitan authorities, city councils, parish councils and companies in the municipalities where it operates, Scotturb is committed to building an efficient transport network that meets the daily needs of its customers and partners. This is because it invests in quality transport, promoting the use of public transport over private transport, providing all citizens with sustainable mobility and contributing to the development of an orderly, structured and clean urban space. To meet the growing demands of society, both in urban centres and in peripheral areas, it is imperative to coordinate mobility policies, integrating them with the various existing means of transport, in order to guarantee a sustainable offer and a quality public transport service.

Organization and management

The company's headquarters, in addition to administrative services and a customer support office, also offers maintenance services, including a workshop, painting, washing and supply. The headquarters also houses the dispatch service, which is responsible for controlling and monitoring all resources, both circulating and human, involved in the company's daily operations. Characterized as a modern and dynamic company, its structure includes a team of attentive and dedicated professionals, who strive to develop their work focused on the quality of the service provided to their customers.

Market

Scotturb operates in three municipalities with a high population density – Cascais, Sintra and Oeiras, in a total area where around 755 thousand people live, and whose population growth over the last decade is noteworthy. The three municipalities are covered by a structured transport network, with the first service at 05:10 and the last at 00:40, with a time span of 19 hours and 30 minutes. Scotturb's transport network provides approximately 50 thousand passengers who use the 133 thousand seats offered daily, more than 2 thousand stops, 19 terminals and 26 points of service and sale of transport tickets. This ensures the mobility of the entire resident population, whether travelling within or between municipalities, as well as visitors and all those who travel daily for business, work or leisure reasons.
