Our history
Scotturb’s history is intertwined with the history of public transport in Portugal. The company emerged from the nationalisation of Cernache do Bom Jardim, Palhinhas, Sintra Atlântico and Boa Viagem, which were incorporated into Rodoviária Nacional after 25 April 1974.
In 1976, the Portuguese state nationalised 94 road passenger transport companies under a single brand and organised them into nine passenger operating centres according to their service areas. It later brought the whole Lisbon area together under DGRL – Direção Geral da Região de Lisboa, which subsequently became Rodoviária de Lisboa.
When Rodoviária de Lisboa was privatised in May 1995, the operating area covering Cascais, Sintra and Oeiras was acquired by the British company Stagecoach Holdings, which began operating in Portugal as Stagecoach Portugal.
In June 2001, the company was sold and adopted the name Scotturb, marking a new era in its history and in public passenger transport. Under new management, it was completely restructured in August 2004, including its internal organisation, infrastructure and transport network.
Focused on comfort and safety, Scotturb has a team of 460 professionals who work every day to provide a quality service to more than 50 thousand passengers. A modern fleet of 160 vehicles operates 1,900 services daily.

Scotturb aims to provide appropriate, efficient mobility, with customer satisfaction as its guiding principle. By understanding customers’ needs, it seeks to earn their trust through safe, comfortable and high-quality public transport.
Understanding customers’ needs, meeting their expectations appropriately, and keeping them informed by answering their questions at every stage makes public transport simple and natural to use. Scotturb regards these as fundamental duties in its day-to-day operations.
Environmental responsibility is also part of its philosophy. Scotturb systematically renews its fleet by purchasing new vehicles equipped with the latest technology for safety, comfort, accessibility and respect for the environment.
Sector context
Working with metropolitan authorities, municipal councils, parish councils and businesses in the municipalities it serves, Scotturb invests in an efficient transport network that meets the daily needs of customers and partners.
By investing in quality transport and encouraging public transport over private vehicles, Scotturb provides sustainable mobility for citizens and contributes to the development of orderly, structured and clean urban spaces.
Meeting society’s growing demands, both in urban centres and surrounding areas, requires coordinated mobility policies that integrate the available modes of transport to ensure a sustainable offer and a quality public transport service.
Organisation and management
Alongside its administrative services and customer support office, the company’s headquarters house maintenance services, including workshops, painting, washing and refuelling.
The headquarters also house the dispatch service, which controls and monitors the vehicles and personnel involved in the company’s daily operations.
As a modern and dynamic company, Scotturb has a team of attentive, committed professionals whose work focuses on the quality of the service delivered to customers.
Market
Scotturb operates in three densely populated municipalities – Cascais, Sintra and Oeiras – covering an area with around 755 thousand residents. Population growth over the past decade has been particularly significant.
The three municipalities are served by a structured transport network whose first service runs at 05:10 and last at 00:40, providing a service window of 19 hours and 30 minutes.
Scotturb’s transport network offers around 50 thousand daily passengers 133 thousand seats, more than 2 thousand stops, 19 terminals and 26 customer service and ticket sales points. It supports residents travelling within and between municipalities, as well as visitors and people making daily journeys for business, work or leisure.
